Introduction

Wrexham Science Festival is now over for another year. Thanks to all those who attended the 2010 event, which ran from Thursday 1 July to Saturday 10 July. More than 3,000 of you visited the festival this year with the public programme seeing a 70% increase in attendance.

Highlights

Here are a couple of the secondary schools talks that TQG was involved with:

• Will the World End in 2012? The Astronomical Evidence

  There has been much scary talk of the world ending in December 2012, when (reputedly) the Mayan calendar ends, the world erupts with major volcanoes, and when planets (or something) crash into the Earth. This free talk by British astrophysicist Professor Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell - recently seen as part of BBC4's Beautiful Minds series - reviewed the astronomical evidence that something dire will happen on 21/12/12.

  TV legend Johnny Ball presented this free talk. Johnny offered an exciting mixture of historic insights, a positive look at the present and an optimistic glimpse into the future. Johnny has spent his career conveying that optimism, because the most important aspect of a young person's development is their growing confidence in themselves and the world around them.
